Portgordon Community Resilience Group
As we experience the first snows of the winter and prepare ourselves for more winter storms, the Trust’s attention returns to Community Resilience.
What is Community Resilience?
“Communities and individuals harnessing resources and expertise to help themselves and prepare for, respond to events that may need us to be self-sufficient for a period of time, or in the event of adverse weather conditions, , respond as a community to support each other in a way that complements the work of the emergency responders.”
What Preparations are being made?
As a community group we’re working towards creating a robust and all-encompassing plan where we respond as a community and prepare to assist local authorities with the management of any incident.
Unfortunately, there aren’t too many volunteers to assist with the planning and we could do with your help!
We will look to seeking support to help co-ordinate a Resilience Plan, which we have started, and can be found here:
This is by no means a finished article, but the start. If you would like to offer any support, or have any skills or resources that you might be able to offer as we progress on the journey, please feel free to download and complete the form below, and email to admin@portgordon.org with the subject heading RESILIENCE.
Staying safe
In the meantime, there’s much you can do to help yourself before you help others. We’ve created a leaflet giving some tips in preparing you and your family for emergencies that will not only be useful for you but will help the resilience group to manage a community response.
While we can hope that we’re never affected by any hardships it’s always better to hope for the best but prepare for the worst!
