Celebrating the Heart of Portgordon: A Shout-Out to The Wonderful Volunteers

There has been so much activity in recent months that its hard to keep up with!

Portgordon wouldn’t be the vibrant, welcoming village it is without the incredible efforts of its volunteers — both within the Trust and across the wider community. Whether it’s growing veg, hosting events, or lighting up the village (literally!), each contribution helps make Portgordon a better place for everyone.

Here’s a quick round-up of the inspiring work being done all around us — and a heartfelt thank you to all involved.

☕ Lampie Hoose Café – A Community Hub
Still running strong three days a week, the Lampie Hoose Café offers a warm welcome, good chat, and a cuppa to anyone who pops in. We encourage everyone to make use of this brilliant community space — by coming along, you help keep the café full of life and purpose.

🌼 Garden Group – Growing for Good
The Trust’s dedicated Garden Group continues to grow fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers that brighten up the village and nourish our community. Their work makes Portgordon more colourful, more sustainable, and more connected. More to follow this year!

💫 Beyond the Trust – Community Spirit in Action
We’re proud to work alongside amazing groups whose efforts contribute to the greater good of Portgordon:

• 🧚‍♂️ The Portgordon Fairies have been busy clearing overgrown spaces and lovingly maintaining the magical Fairy Walk — adding charm and care to the village.
• 🎄 Light Up Portgordon are already planning to make this year’s Christmas lights even more spectacular — their sparkle brings winter warmth and festive joy to us all.
• 🎳 Portgordon Bowling Club have been putting on a range of fundraisers and events, showing dedication and community spirit that enrich village life.
• 🎒 The Parent Council have worked tirelessly in support of our local primary school. We hope they’re enjoying a well-earned summer break — their hard work has not gone unnoticed!

🏡 The Village Hall Committee – Keeping the Heart Beating
The Village Hall remains a cornerstone of community life, thanks to the committee’s efforts in organising events, hosting performances, and offering space for local groups to meet and connect.

🍽 A Note on the Luncheon Club
There’s been growing interest in reviving the much-loved Luncheon Club — a wonderful opportunity to reconnect over good food and conversation. Watch this space!
