UPDATE – Heating is in!!

We are happy to say, that thanks to the amazing collaborative efforts from Clancool Refrigeration, Andrew Murray Electricians, KT Joinery and our amazing funders, Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) and Local Energy Scotland, the heating system is now installed and working.

All involved have been amazing to work with, professional, flexible and supportive as we have navigated the process in order to access this much needed funding which will future proof our hall going forward.

We are excited to show the difference that this will make to our hall users.

As the global call for sustainable energy solutions grows louder, our village hall has taken a proactive step towards a greener future. Supported by Local Energy Scotland, a Business Energy report was undertaken and options for a number of energy efficient measures were highlighted.

In an effort to reduce carbon emissions and embrace renewable energy sources, we are excited to announce the installation of air-to-air source heat pumps.

Support for this project has been received from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) and Local Energy Scotland to make this innovative move not only promises numerous benefits for the community but also signifies Portgordon’s journey to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

The Transition to Air-to-Air Source Heat Pumps

The installation of air-to-air source heat pumps marks a significant shift in how our village hall meets its heating and cooling needs. Traditionally, we relied on dated heating systems, which not only contributed to greenhouse gas emissions but also posed a threat to the environment and public health. The new heat pumps utilise clean and renewable energy, drawing warmth from the outdoor air and transferring it into the building’s interior during colder months. In the summer, they work in reverse to provide efficient air conditioning.

Environmental Benefits: By utilising the surrounding air as a heat source, air-to-air heat pumps greatly reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. This shift will significantly contribute to our village’s efforts to combat climate change and work towards a more sustainable community.

Energy Efficiency: Air-to-air heat pumps are highly energy-efficient, with some models boasting a coefficient of performance (COP) greater than 3, meaning they produce three units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed. This efficiency leads to reduced energy consumption, ultimately lowering utility bills and easing the financial burden on the village hall’s budget.

Cost Savings: With the installation of air-to-air heat pumps, the village hall is expected to experience substantial cost savings in the long run. As energy consumption decreases, so will utility bills, providing an opportunity to allocate the saved funds towards other essential community initiatives and improvements.

Improved Air Quality: Unlike traditional heating systems, air-to-air heat pumps do not burn fossil fuels, eliminating the release of harmful pollutants into the air. As a result, indoor air quality will improve, creating a healthier and more comfortable environment for visitors, volunteers and the community at large.
