Grissan Portside Ltd. are undertaking works on the beach at Portgordon/Tannachy Sands to install a Long Sea Outfall during April, May and June. The works will take Approx 6-8 weeks and may finish sooner but this is heavily dependent on weather and sea conditions. The works have been licenced by Marine Scotland under the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010 and Licence Number: MS-00009953 – Construction of Outfall Pipeline and deposit of a temporary mooring.

As part of the works a site compound has been be set up in the field next to the existing Maltings outfall (week commencing 20th March) and a beach diversion will be in place for the duration to keep people safe and away from the work of excavators that will be trenching and moving pipes on the beach. The pipeline will be buried and completion of the works in June will see the beach reinstated to current condition.

Notices and Signs will appear in the coming weeks with information about the beach diversion and its duration.

Update: 31/05/2023

So far, works are on track with the first 2 sections of the pipeline in, making them 50-75% of the way there. However, the weather conditions out at sea have set them back slightly. They are still looking for a finish hopefully around the 20th of June.

They are finished!

The works to install the Long Sea Outfall by Grissan commenced on the 1st of April and were completed on the 11th July with a significant amount of weather delay causing the overall project to overrun the 3 month timeframe by 11 days. However the beach was reopened on the 22nd of June once the inshore work had been completed and the offshore works were subsequently completed on the 11th July. The offshore buoy, site compound and diversion signage are now removed from the area and the beach has been returned to its original condition with the pipe buried 1.5m below the returned levels. The area is now fully reopened on land and at sea with fishing and walking activities returned to normal. Grissan are very grateful to the local community for utilising the diversions during this time and hope everyone is getting back to enjoying the beach and their regular walking routes.
